The club said in a statement that Joan Laporta will step down on Monday nine February, the day elections are called, to seek re-election on Sunday 15 March 2026.

Activating the process means he and part of his board will leave their posts to work on his campaign, while others, led by Rafael Yuste, will continue to run the club.

Laporta delivered the message via the club’s channels while with the first team for the Copa del Rey quarter-final at Albacete. He said he feels energised and wants a model process with high participation.

Aware that Victor Font, Marc Ciria, Xavi Vilajoana and Joan Camprubí Montal are building pre-candidacies, he said he wants candidates to set out proposals, handled with normality and cordiality among supporters, and he hopes for a strong turnout.

He added that those who remain at the club, to be confirmed at the nine February board meeting, will safeguard the election process. He said he wants voting day to feel like a celebration.

Laporta also noted Barcelona’s bid to host the 2029 Champions League final at the Spotify Camp Nou. He said the club will not stop during the campaign, decisions continue to be taken, and he hopes the proposal becomes reality, with Barcelona possibly present in that final.
