Heading into Sunday’s El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid, Joan Laporta appeared quite confident of his team’s abilities.

The Barcelona president was sure that the Catalans would be able to continue their dominance over Los Blancos. But much to his disappointment, Barcelona ended up losing the game 2-1.

Despite being left disappointed at Barcelona’s defeat, Laporta tried to make sure that the spirits are high within the Barça camp.

As reported by MARCA, Laporta, on Sunday, made it a point to visit the team at the Ciutat Esportiva training ground. The president entered the locker room to offer words of encouragement to the players and staff.

He reminded them that the season is long and that one setback, no matter how painful, should not define their campaign.

Laporta knows how much a Clasico defeat can affect the mood within the club – not just emotionally, but also in terms of league standings.

The loss allowed Real Madrid to close the gap at the top of the table to just five points. Still, rather than criticise, Laporta focused on rebuilding confidence and reminding the players of the goals still within reach.

Those close to the club say Laporta addressed the team briefly but passionately, without singling out any player. He emphasised unity, belief, and the importance of bouncing back immediately.

The Barça president continues to hold “maximum confidence” in head coach Hansi Flick, as well as in the talent and depth of the current squad.

With Laporta still retaining confidence and hope within the squad, Barcelona must respond quickly and comprehensively as they look to get their season back on track in the next few weeks.
