Joan Laporta says Barcelona’s formal bid for Julian Alvarez remains on the table, but not indefinitely, as he arrived in Dallas to watch the World Cup semi-final between France and Spain.

According to L'Équipe, the Barcelona president stressed that the club, not any rival, would set the tempo on negotiations and would announce a cut-off point in due course. He declined to reveal the figure, noting only that Alvarez deserves a significant proposal despite the likely arrival of the German Karim Adeyemi in Catalonia.

Laporta said relations with Atlético remain cordial and that he has spoken with their chief executive, Miguel Angel Gil. He said an early misunderstanding over the bid had been cleared up and that Barcelona had not applied further pressure.

He added that the offer would stay valid until Atlético identify an alternative option.

Under contract at Atlético, Alvarez publicly expressed during the World Cup his wish to leave Atlético de Madrid. He scored in Argentina’s 3-1 extra-time quarter-final win over Switzerland.

The former Manchester City forward remains among Barcelona’s priority targets in this window.
