Joao Pedro insisted Paris Saint-Germain players and staff “lost their heads” after the Club World Cup final, when a coming together between the teams saw PSG manager Luis Enrique strike the Brazilian in the face.
Chelsea won the Club World Cup on Sunday with a breathtaking 3-0 win over the reigning European champions.
After the match, the Blues were celebrating their win on the pitch at the MetLife Stadium but were interrupted as PSG players and staff took issue with their celebrations and tempers flared up.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, the PSG goalkeeper, had to have a tense conversation with a Chelsea player diffused by Enzo Maresca, while Enrique took issue with Joao Pedro and appeared to slap him in the face.
The scorer of Chelsea’s third goal was questioned about this incident after the match.
“It’s normal,” Joao Pedro said. “Everyone wanted to win the game. In the end, I think they lost their heads.
“But this is football. This happens. Now we need to enjoy it, because we won the tournament. That’s it.”
His goal against PSG made it three goals in two starts for the man signed for £60million from Brighton midway through the competition.
