Joao Pedro is four goals without a game. Before that, he had six in five games. He scored five in five games in January, but scored only twice between and the end of August and the start of December.
What you can tell from that is that he’s the definitive streaky striker. He scores in bunches, but can go weeks or months without a goal. That’s fine – it’s a common trait for a striker, and is often just a quirk of the statistics. But what it does mean is that Chelsea need other regular scorers in the team for those quiet periods.
The last four games, where JP hasn’t scored, we’ve lost all four, scoring just twice. When Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez are at their best, we should be fine. But with both of them a little off it right now, this team is struggling to score, which is putting yet more pressure on their shaky back line.
Romeo Lavia’s first start in the Premier League since October was one of the few bright spots of the game, and even then it wasn’t fully convincing.
Chelsea’s lowest rated player overall was Robert Sanchez, who continued his infamous Chelsea career with yet more foolishness.
