João Rego has signed a new Benfica contract running to the end of 2029/30, agreed in February, with a 100 million euros release clause. The club did not issue an announcement, with confirmation appearing in the SAD report for the first half of 2025/26.
According to Glorioso 1904, Rui Costa intends for the midfielder to be loaned in 2026/27 to assess him at a first-division side.
The No 84 now joins a group of Benfica players protected by similar clauses, including Anatoliy Trubin, António Silva, Richard Ríos, Andreas Schjelderup, Vangelis Pavlidis and Gianluca Prestianni.
This season Rego, valued at three million euros, has made 22 appearances for Benfica: eight in Liga Portugal Betclic, eight in Liga Portugal Meu Super, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Champions League and one in the Taça da Liga.
Across 826 minutes on the pitch, he has scored two goals.
