João Schmidt to miss Santos derby at Corinthians in Brasileirão after suspension | OneFootball

Santos will be without midfielder João Schmidt for the derby against Corinthians in the 25th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro on Sunday at 16:00 Brasília time at Neo Química Arena.

According to Globo.com, Schmidt is suspended after collecting a third yellow card in the draw with Mirassol, shown at 18 minutes of the first half.

He arrived late into a challenge and fouled Gustavo Cazonatti in midfield, leading referee Edina Alves Batista to book him.

Without Schmidt, coach Cuca is expected to restore Willian Arão to midfield. Arão had been used in defence due to centre-back Lucas Veríssimo recovering from a left calf problem.

The expectation is that Veríssimo could be available to Cuca against Palmeiras on Wednesday, the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals.

Other options include Cristian Oliva with Gustavo Henrique dropping into the holding role, or Samuel Pierri starting in the position.

That result left Santos 14th in the league on 26 points.
