London City Lionesses paving the way

After getting promoted to the top flight this year, there were doubts over how well London City Lionesses would do in the WSL.

Jocelyn Precheur’s side have put those fears to bed however as they have proved just how good they are.

The newly-promoted side have been a refreshing change in the league and they sit sixth as we approach Christmas after a good run of form.

Speaking ahead of their final game of 2025, Precheur spoke on the importance of his team paving the way for other independent women’s clubs in England and across the rest of Europe.

“It is a project that is massive and very exciting, and we are all here to make sure this project is successful, especially as we are the first independent Women’s football club. It is important for us to be successful and maybe show the way for other projects,” Precheur said.

“I believe more and more of the possibility to have independent clubs in Women’s football, and not only in England. Women deserve to be the priority.”

The Lionesses play Leicester this weekend in their final game of the year as they look to claw their way into the top four.

London City Lionesses making history

As the first-ever independent women’s team in England to play in the WSL, London City are already making history.

The club is already safe from relegation with 15 points to their name at the winter break.

But survival isn’t what the Lionesses want as they believe they can compete alongside the best in England.

Jocelyn Precheur’s team are proving that they can do just that and a win this weekend could take them to just one point off the top four.

A place in Europe would be the stuff of dreams for London City Lionesses but having come this far in the past year, they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down heading into 2026.
