Joe Cole says that Chelsea are currently going through a slow improvement but it could be quicker with more experienced players.

I think that so many people would agree with that statement made by Cole. It just makes a lot of sense, no?

I don’t think any Chelsea fan will be looking at the squad and thinking that it’s been built without quality? There is a lot of quality in this squad and the improvements are showing this season. They won two trophies at the end of last season, so there are certainly some improvements being shown.

I think the desire to build something that will challenge on all cylinders at Chelsea is there. But I also agree with Cole and believe it would have been done quicker if it had more experienced leaders added in to the squad.

Joe Cole said on Chelsea: “It’s clear the club are working within a business framework. Anyone who’s worked for Brighton seems to be coming in.

“They want to do that model and are trying to apply it. But my problem with that model – the data-driven model – at the very, very top is I think the margins are in the unseen, what data can’t see.

“I think data has a big part to play, but at that very, very top, I think it’s always the human element that makes the difference.

“They’re at where we expected them to be at. Slow improvement, could be quicker with experienced players in it added but that’s not the mandate. That’s not what the club are going to do.”

He’s spot on

I think Cole is spot on with this and I couldn’t have said it better. He’s worded it very well, he’s complimented the owners business model and is not saying it wont work, he’s just showing a way that it could work quicker, and I agree.
