With the January transfer window in full flow, Blackburn Rovers supporters can expect to see some comings and goings this month.

Despite being a notoriously difficult window to do business in, the hierarchy at Ewood Park will be keen to strengthen Jon Dahl Tomasson's squad in a bid to move up the Championship table.

Rovers are currently planted in mid-table, clear of the bottom three but adrift of the top-six.

This means that, despite their current lowly position, a good run could quite easily see them in the play-off mix at the end of the season, and a good transfer window will be vital to their hopes of moving up the table.

The club have had a busy opening week of the January window, signing Yasin Ayari and Ben Chrisene on loan from Brighton and Aston Villa respectively, while Ethan Walker, Lewis Travis and Jordan Eastham have joined Oldham, Ipswich Town and Hyde United on loan respectively.

Joe Gelhardt

Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt has been linked with a move to Ewood Park this month, according to Alan Nixon.

The 21-year-old striker has struggled for game-time this season at Elland Road thanks to Leeds' strength in depth at striker, but has proven himself at Championship level previously during spells with Wigan Athletic and Sunderland.

Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic are said to be keen on Gelhardt, according to the Daily Mail, so Rovers face a battle if they're to get their man.

However, if Blackburn could get the signing of the 21-year-old over the line it would be a very shrewd move.

Connor O'Riordan

Blackburn are said to be keen on Crewe Alexandra centre-back Connor O'Riordan, according to the Lancashire Telegraph. Rovers are said to have triggered the 20-year-old's £500,000 release clause but the League Two side have thrown a spanner in the works.

Rovers are keen to thrash out a payment plan with Crewe, but the League Two side want the money in one go, something that is proving problematic with Rovers, according to Alan Nixon.

The Ewood Park-based club have had problems at the back this season; only Rotherham United have a worse record heading into the weekend of January 13/14th. It's hoped that the signing of O'Riordan will go some way to fixing their leaky defence.

Semir Telalović

John Dahl Tomasson brought Telalović to the club in the summer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, but it hasn't quite worked out for the German in Lancashire.

Perhaps a loan move for the striker would be a good move this month, particularly if the club manage to get the signing of Gelhardt or another signing over the line.

Jake Garrett

20-year-old midfielder Jake Garrett could also leave the club this month following John Buckley being recalled from his loan at Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Buckley is set to be sidelined until March but will still be fit to play some part in the club's run in across the final few months of the Championship season.

Garrett is a very promising talent and has featured across all competitions this season. However, he's struggled for starts, which means the club could potentially be open to loaning him out during the second-half of the season.

He's started all five of the club's cup games this season, including their 5-2 win over Cambridge in the FA Cup on Saturday. A short-term loan spell could do the player a world of good ahead of the 2023/24 season.
