Out-on-loan Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt has again hinted he wants to stay at Hull City permanently after their promotion to the Premier League, though he remains a Leeds player.
"It's a good question, isn't it? Let's see what happens over the summer, but it's pretty clear what I want to do." He told Hull Live.
The 24-year-old rejoined Hull on a season-long loan last summer, having initially agreed a six-month switch in January 2025. He delivered a career-best return of 15 goals, including the second in a 2-0 play-off semi-final win at Millwall. He came on midway through the second half at Wembley as Hull beat Middlesbrough, with Oli McBurnie winning it deep into added time as the sixth-placed finishers upset the odds.
"It's amazing, it feels brilliant. To get back to the Premier League with Hull City, I love the club, I'm buzzing, I'm absolutely buzzing. It just shows what can happen in 12 months."
"Under the situations we had, with the embargo, we were always at a disadvantage; everybody had written us off, now we've proved everyone wrong, and now we're off to the Premier League."
Hull do not hold an option to buy him because of their recent transfer embargo, and they recruited only loans and free agents last summer. Leeds initially wanted between £3-4 million for Gelhardt, a figure that could rise after his prolific season and promotion. He will take a short break before returning to West Yorkshire for talks, with one year left on his Elland Road deal. Anything above £1m would represent profit for Leeds.
