Hull City are poised to sign Joe Gelhardt on a long-term contract after reaching agreement with Premier League Leeds United.

Leeds Live understands Gelhardt is expected to sign a four-year deal with a 12-month option at the MKM Stadium. Chairman Acun Ilicali led negotiations in the past 24 hours.

The Tigers have moved quickly and, barring late complications, the 24-year-old should be in the squad for Saturday's meeting with Nice.

Gelhardt had been anticipating a switch to Birmingham City earlier in the week, before Hull stepped in to reunite him with manager Sergej Jakirovic, who has driven the move.

He first arrived in January 2025 during a relegation fight, scoring five important goals to keep City in the Championship.

He returned last summer and struck 15, including a crucial second in the play-off semi-final win over Millwall that booked a Wembley final.

Starting the Wembley clash with Middlesbrough on the bench, he came on to help City to success, notably avoiding any touch on Oli McBurnie's goal-bound shot, which would likely have seen it ruled offside.

Gelhardt has repeatedly signalled a desire to come back to the MKM Stadium, and it now appears he will get that chance on a multi-year deal, while aiming to add to his 35 Premier League outings for Leeds.
