Joel Piroe has joined West Ham on loan from Leeds, with an obligation to buy if promotion is secured next summer. He has risked upsetting Leeds supporters by calling London a much nicer city than Leeds.
“London is obviously a much nicer city than Leeds.” “And West Ham has a team worthy of the Premier League,” he told De Voetbalkantine.
“Just look at the stadium... Sold out, 60,000 fans.” “Especially in London, where West Ham United isn’t the biggest or most popular club.”
He featured for only 15 minutes in Leeds’ pre-season and, across three years, delivered 34 goals and 10 assists in 118 first-team appearances.
The 27-year-old scored on debut in a 2-1 defeat to Charlton but has not scored in his last three games in all competitions.
“I feel like the Championship gave me the best opportunities to play a lot of matches.” “When you play a lot, you can showcase your qualities... My goal is to score 20 goals.”
At Leeds he was behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha. Daniel Farke said one or two more attacking additions would have helped only if the right and affordable options, and he stressed faith in his current forwards while hoping injuries are avoided.
