The Trotters sparked the most dramatic of comebacks against Huddersfield Town on Thursday night
Many Bolton Wanderers supporters have praised John McAtee's contributions as the Lancashire side mounted the most dramatic of comebacks to emerge 2-1 victors against expected promotion rivals, Huddersfield Town, on Thursday night.
The two clubs are among the most high-profile to feature in this season's League One campaign when taking into account their respective recent pedigree in the Championship, Premier League and, in Bolton's case, stints as a European side at the turn of the millennium.
At present, Steven Schumacher is the man tasked with ending what would be a seven-year exile from the second tier of English football for the Whites, who have undergone several rebuilds in the past few years, which included the Liverpudlian's first pre-season and transfer window across the summer.
Many punters and supporters earmarked Wanderers as one of the cluster of sides expected to challenge for at least a play-off place under the guidance of the man who won the League One title just three seasons ago when in charge of Plymouth Argyle, whilst the same could also be said for the Terriers, with Lee Grant receiving plenty of backing from American owner, Kevin Nagle, in what is the 42-year-old's first full-time managerial role.
Such ingredients set up what was to be an intriguing encounter at the Accu Stadium, although it looked as though the points were staying in West Yorkshire despite the fact that Huddersfield's collective level of performance took a major dip across the 90 minutes.
That was, until Bolton completely wiped out Leo Castledine's early opener for the hosts, with Sam Dalby and Amario Cozier-Duberry scoring twice in second half stoppage-time to see Schumacher's side move into seventh for the time being, as the aforementioned McAtee made a strong impact following his 67th-minute introduction.
McAtee is now into his second campaign at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, although he has found regular minutes rather hard to come by.
After scoring 11 times in League One last season, the 26-year-old was the subject of a failed loan return to former club, Barnsley, in the latter stages of the summer window and has only made one league start under Schumacher this term, partly down to the impressive form of Hull City and Middlesbrough loanees, Mason Burstow and Marcus Forss.
The ex-Luton Town man, once again, had to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench on Thursday night, before being introduced in place of Forss with 23 minutes remaining.
He may not have registered his fourth goal contribution in all competitions thus far, but many of the travelling contingent and those of a Bolton persuasion watching on television screens certainly noticed an upsurge in intensity within the latter stages of the contest that eventually resulted in Dalby and Cozier-Duberry's dramatic strikes.
Taking to social media after the full-time whistle, McAtee showcased the pride in his teammates and those in the stands who were all united in achieving a first away win of the season, stating: "Shows why (what) happens when you REALLY stick together! Proud of everyone tonight, class."
Unsurprisingly, many Whites supporters were delighted to see the forward's reaction to the turnaround which has shot their side up the table ahead of Saturday's fixtures, with one in particular praising his endeavour, whilst also believing he could've added to the scoring with his only shot of the aforementioned substitute cameo as he attempted to round Lee Nicholls.
Given the previously mentioned links of a return to Oakwell under Conor Hourihane, another Bolton fan was ecstatic with the impact McAtee made off the bench.
McAtee left another significant impression on another Wanderer, who also referenced the desire he showcased the game beforehand, albeit it was a rather frustrating 3-0 defeat at Burton Albion.
Another Bolton fan now believes that McAtee should be considered as a starter, potentially, for the upcoming clash against Cardiff City.
A tally of 18 goals in 13 games for the Whites is now the joint-third best goal return in League One, showcasing the impressive strength-in-depth at Schumacher's disposal.
This was only echoed by McAtee's impact off the bench, as well as Dalby's impressive finish to initially level the scores on 93 minutes, with the 25-year-old netting his first goal for the club in the process after a stellar campaign at Dundee United last season on loan from Wrexham.
The duo did everything within their respective powers to give the Wanderers boss a selection headache for their upcoming batch of fixtures, with the hope that the scenes of unity between players, staff and those in the stands can spark some much-needed momentum after an inconsistent beginning to the campaign.
