Manchester United were linked with multiple names this summer for the right wing-back role.
The Premier League giants already have Diogo Dalot in their squad for the position, while Noussair Mazraoui is an option for the job as well.
Interestingly, Ruben Amorim has mostly used Amad Diallo as a right wing-back during his tenure at the Theatre of Dreams, but was reportedly interested in adding more cover to the area this year.
Inter Milan’s marauding full-back Denzel Dumfries was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the summer. Monaco’s Vanderson was also named as a target by various outlets, but the Premier League giants ended the transfer window without signing a new face for the role.
However, it now appears that United are planning to reinforce the position in 2026.
According to a report from Fichajes, the English giants have set their sights on Real Sociedad right-back Jon Aramburu. The Venezuelan was briefly a part of the Spanish side’s academy before returning to his country in 2017.
After stints with Deportivo La Guaira and Real Union, Aramburu returned to the Reale Arena in 2023. The 23 year old eventually broke into the senior side and has developed steadily so far.
Last season, he registered a goal and an assist from 49 games across competitions for Sociedad. Interestingly, Aramburu saw a straight red at Old Trafford in the Europa League semi-final second leg, just seven minutes after coming off the bench!
Nevertheless, United are apparently pleased with the Venezuelan’s efforts so far and are leading the race to sign him in 2026.
The report says, “Manchester United emerges as a leading candidate to sign him. They know the value of the full-back and are already studying offers in line with his potential.”
“The English club’s management is analyzing investments to strengthen its defense, and Jon Aramburu fits the bill as a signing for the future.”
Aramburu signed a new deal until 2030 with the San Sebastian club at the start of this year, and Sociedad would ideally want to hold on to him for another campaign.
However, the report adds that the Spanish could let him go for offers above €15m. The asking price makes the player a low-cost option for United, who could take advantage of the situation next year.
While he is not the finished product yet, the Venezuelan has all the ingredients to flourish in Amorim’s system, and could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business.
Dalot has struggled for consistency during his entire stay at Old Trafford, and someone like Aramburu could help keep the Portuguese on their toes as well.
United have revamped their transfer strategy of late and are targeting potential stars alongside established names. Just like Patrick Dorgu, a move for Aramburu could turn out to be a masterstroke from INEOS.
