According to Diario Vasco, Jon Pacheco has chosen to remain at Real Sociedad on deadline day, so no move is expected today. The left-footed centre-back will try to force his way into the side despite fierce competition.
He currently sits behind Luken Beitia in the pecking order, as shown at the Santiago Bernabéu where Beitia started alongside Jon Martín. Pacheco is the only natural left-footer among the options.
Rayo Vallecano made a late push, with Pacheco likely to start there on loan and Beñat San José eager to bring him in. He instead stays after spending last season at Alavés on loan to gain minutes.
It has been a complicated summer. Pacheco had ankle surgery before pre-season to fix lingering pain, completed the build-up, then an adductor issue sidelined him for several weeks.
Real searched for a centre-half after Erik Bretos decided against signing Caleta-Car, though in June the club had four homegrown centre-backs ready for the league opener, including Pacheco. This season brings four competitions, the league, Europa League, Copa and Supercopa de España.
Competition is intense. Igor Zubeldia impressed against Espanyol after a difficult last season, Jon Martín, 20, has become the mainstay, and loan arrival Mamadou Sarr can operate on either side.
Several clubs sounded him out this summer. Málaga, newly promoted to the top flight and with Loren as sporting director, were among them, while Osasuna did not make contact.
