Jon Rudkin calls for patience as he assumes new Leicester City role | OneFootball

Jon Rudkin has urged patience, saying Leicester City’s hierarchy shake-up will not bring instant results, as he moves into the chief football officer role in a rare statement.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the club have appointed their first ever sporting director, James McCarron, from the City Football Group. He will oversee recruitment and football philosophy and will report to Rudkin.

The overhaul follows a fall from Champions League contention to a Championship relegation fight. Rudkin framed the project around long-term sustainability, careful planning, discipline and consistency, while staying agile to short-term demands.

Kevin Davies has been promoted from finance director to chief executive, succeeding Susan Whelan. Appointed finance director in May 2023, he inherited the issues that resulted in a points deduction.

Chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha called Davies a stabilising influence and reaffirmed support for Rudkin. He said the new structure reflects the demands of the modern game and promised greater transparency and engagement with supporters, with introductions to follow in the coming weeks.

Leicester-born Davies, who has worked at the club for 15 years, said he understands the fanbase and local communities. His focus is on structures and processes that underpin stability, sustainability and competitive ambition across the club.

With King Power’s backing, he aims to build a platform to compete sustainably in the Premier League again and, over time, to challenge for honours. He said that depends on diligence, long-term thinking and collective effort aligned to football performance.
