Jonathan David has enjoyed an impressive start to life at Atletico Madrid following his loan move from Juventus.

David produced another outstanding display in Atletico’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday.

He scored the winning goal, helping Atletico record back-to-back home league wins in the Madrid derby for the first time since 1977.

The Canada international is now the first Atletico player to score in each of his first three La Liga matches in the 21st century.

He is also the first Atletico player to score on his league debut and in the Madrid derby this century.

David is just three goals from equalling his Serie A goal tally last season, highlighting the contrast in his form for Atletico and Juventus.

He has capitalised on Julian Alvarez’s slow start and Alexander Sorloth’s injury to stake a claim for a starting berth. He has now started the last two league games.

David has registered more goals per minute than any other Atletico player, and only three players have done so better than him in La Liga.

His ability to get into shooting positions has contributed to his goalscoring form. He ranks fifth for shots per game and joint-third for shots on target per game.

David will keep his place in the team if he remains consistent, which could earn him a permanent move to Atletico next summer.
