Jonny Williams joins Eastleigh as Brian Brobbey injury assessed and future claim aired | OneFootball

Jonny Williams has joined National League side Eastleigh, while Sunderland face an anxious wait on Brian Brobbey’s fitness and fresh claims about his long-term future.

“These types of deals are always difficult for a club like Sunderland. Obviously, in an ideal world, they don't want to lose Brobbey because he's done an excellent job for them. But say a huge offer comes in tomorrow from Tottenham or somebody like that, I think they would struggle to turn that down.” He told Football Insider.

Sunderland’s immediate concern is the hamstring issue Brobbey suffered in the Netherlands 1-1 draw with Germany on Thursday, when he was replaced by Mexx Meerdink after 35 minutes. Netherlands head coach Xavi has confirmed the injury, and supporters will hope it is not as serious as first feared.

The 33-times capped Wales international spent most of 2017/18 on loan at Sunderland, scoring once in 13 appearances as injuries restricted his impact. He returned to Crystal Palace, then had spells with Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City, and left Gillingham at the end of last season.

After training with a PFA group in the summer, the attacking midfielder has signed for Eastleigh, where former Sunderland owner Stuart Donald is chairman and majority shareholder. It is his first step into non-league, and he has said he wants to enjoy his football again and help the team win games.
