Jordan Henderson and Roman Kemp come together for open conversation on mental health

Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, Brentford brought together Jordan Henderson, TV presenter Roman Kemp and Bees sports psychologist Michael Caulfield for an honest conversation around mental health, pressure, vulnerability and the importance of talking.

As part of the club's ongoing Talking is the Best Tactic initiative, the special film explores how football can help to break stigma around mental health and encourages fans to take the time to check in on others and help make a difference to their mental wellbeing.

It also highlights Brentford’s involvement as one of ten pilot clubs in the Premier League’s ‘Together Against Suicide’ programme, which aims to provide support for fans experiencing suicidal thoughts and advocate help-seeking behaviours.

Jordan reflects on dealing with pressure throughout his career, while Roman shares his personal experiences and why one conversation changed - and saved - his life.

The trio came together to speak on one of Brentford’s benches, first installed at the training ground by Michael to give players, coaches and staff a safe and confidential place to talk. This season, Brentford installed a collection of benches in west London to encourage its local community to open up about mental health.

Each bench, delivered in partnership with the London Borough of Hounslow, includes information signposting to professional mental health support services, as well as crisis support for those experiencing a mental health emergency.

The Talking is the Best Tactic initiative sees the club and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust utilise its platforms and community outreach to raise awareness of suicide prevention measures, highlighting the importance of conversation and encouraging those in need to seek help.

As part of Brentford’s work in this area, free monthly drop-ins are hosted by the Community Sports Trust to provide attendees with access to mental health expertise, while the Trust also offers free support through the BeeActive Football or Comedy for Thought sessions, which are facilitated by experienced talking therapists.

The video launches ahead of Mental Health Awareness week, with all Premier League matches this weekend dedicated to raising awareness of mental health. The league and clubs will be using this period to help promote positive conversations around mental wellbeing, highlighting how simple, everyday actions can help people feel more connected, positive and supported.
