England reached the World Cup quarter-final with a dramatic win over co-hosts Mexico at the Azteca Stadium, but the night ended with Jordan Henderson taken to hospital after a freak post-match fall.

According to Sunderland Echo, manager Thomas Tuchel said the former Sunderland midfielder injured his wrist when, as an unused substitute, he fell over an advertising board while celebrating with team-mates.

Jude Bellingham scored twice and Harry Kane converted a penalty as England edged a five-goal thriller in front of a 100,000-strong crowd.

The Three Lions played more than 40 minutes with 10 men after Jarell Quansah was sent off following a VAR review of a strong challenge on Jesus Gallardo.

Tuchel said he had mixed emotions, praising the mentality and heart his players showed in finding a way to win in the round of 16.

He added he was exhausted and saddened by Henderson’s situation, called the wrist problem quite serious, and said he did not yet know the next steps after the doctor briefed him.
