After three turbulent seasons across Blues, Rennes and Leicester, Jordan James is seeking stability with a Wolves move and a platform to push on. He has already worked under nine managers and seen two relegations from the Championship.
He should benefit from being closer to his Hereford home. He admitted he “struggled a bit mentally” with the early move overseas, he told the Independent.
The son of former Hereford and Burton centre-back Tony James, he joined Blues at nine and debuted in November 2021 aged 17. A Wales international since early 2023, he left St Andrews with more than 100 appearances, nearly half as a substitute.
Linked with Atalanta and Fiorentina, he instead joined Rennes after Blues were demoted to League One, in a deal worth up to £8 million. A tumultuous first year brought two managerial exits in two months and only 14 league starts.
A deadline day switch to Leicester last summer was about regular football. He featured in 34 Championship matches and was among the few to earn individual credit during a grim campaign that ended in relegation.
Wolves, one of several second-tier clubs to show interest, view him as hardened by setbacks rather than harmed. Cesar Peixoto also values his ability to play deep or box to box. “How I feel at the moment is I’m good enough to sort of change games,” James said.
