Former Santos full-back Jorge Fucile has ended retirement at 41 to play for Los Gorriones, who will feature in the 2026 Uruguayan Primera División Amateur, the AUF-run third tier.
"I need to write to Oliva now he has joined Santos. I will advise him to keep playing as he has. In Brazil they do not mark as much, he will feel he has more space and will need to communicate a lot," he said.
He was speaking to Carve Deportiva.
Christian Oliva is travelling to Brazil to sign for Santos until December 2028 in a move worth about 1.5 million dollars from Nacional. He holds 75 percent of his economic rights, with Nacional owning the remaining 25 percent.
Fucile spent 2012 at Santos on loan from Porto in a deal linked to Danilo’s sale. He made 14 competitive appearances and scored once before injuries curtailed his stay and he returned to Porto.
Retired since 2022, he is returning for personal and community reasons at a club based in Piedras Blancas in Montevideo, close to where he grew up.
Club president Óscar Sánchez had long urged him to join, first pitching the plan when the side were in the fourth tier. Promotion to the third division in 2025 helped seal his decision.
On Santos’ official X account, Carlos “Pato” Sanchez and former goalkeeper Rodolfo Rodriguez also welcomed Oliva.
