The Brazilian Instagram account of Conmebol Libertadores caused confusion by promoting an event with the wrong Jorginho, which the Flamengo midfielder took in good humour. According to Coluna Do Fla, the post was meant to reference the 1994 World Cup winner but used the current player’s photo.
The post, advertising the Libertadores Experience in Rio de Janeiro, paired its message with the active player rather than the retired champion. Surprised, the Flamengo man replied with a playful comment that quickly engaged supporters.
The artwork invited fans to follow the path to glory with Jorginho. He replied that he knew nothing about any appearance and added two laughing emojis.
The account deleted the upload once the mistake was spotted. A screenshot soon circulated online and fans joined the jokes, with one comparing it to a Marcos Braz misstep, a nod to the club’s former executive.
The Conmebol Libertadores Experience runs from 16 to 20 September 2026 and is open to the public. The trophy will be on show at Enseada Botafogo with sports activities, food and music, and Léo Moura, a Libertadores winner with Grêmio, is confirmed. The competition’s account has yet to publish the correct tribute to the former Brazil international.
Despite the mix-up, Jorginho remains focused on Flamengo’s Libertadores quarter-final against Independiente del Valle (EQU) on Thursday 17 at 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã. The tie decides a semi-final place and will be shown live on ESPN and on Disney+ via streaming.
