José Augusto received the highest distinction at the Galardões Cosme Damião and saluted Benfica with a fervent message. The two-time European champion was visibly moved on stage.

According to Glorioso 1904, he collected the prize from Benfica president Rui Costa, then addressed a packed pavilion of club figures. Athletes, officials, former staff and special guests, including FPF president Pedro Proença, were in attendance.
