Xavi Hernández appointed Netherlands head coach | OneFootball

Xavi Hernández has been confirmed as the new Netherlands head coach, following Ronald Koeman’s exit after the most recent World Cup.

The 46-year-old, a world champion with Spain in 2010, has been out of work since June 2024 after a mixed spell in charge of Barcelona.

He left after 143 matches, having won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in 2023. Before taking over at Barcelona, the former midfielder led Al-Sadd in Qatar, winning seven trophies.

This will be his first job in international football and marks a return to the dugout after two years.

The Dutch federation had also considered Roberto Martínez and Michael Reiziger for the role. Xavi again follows Koeman, having succeeded the Dutchman at Barcelona in November 2021.
