José Boto has condemned Dynamo Moscow for abandoning Gonzalo Plata’s transfer, adding the winger is welcome back at Flamengo. According to Coluna Do Fla, he spoke at the Maracanã during Wednesday’s rescheduled match against Mirassol.
Boto said he could not explain the Russian club’s behaviour and insisted Flamengo never wanted Plata to leave. He said the club accepted a proposal that was very advantageous for the player, subject to conditions.
The agreement called for an upfront payment of 12 million euros, about R$ 72 million at current rates, representing a significant gain for Flamengo.
After travelling to Russia, Plata was welcomed at the airport by Dynamo personnel, but he subsequently failed medical tests. No medical report or reason for the failure reached Flamengo.
Boto said Dynamo then withdrew and that the matter now sits with Flamengo’s legal department, adding the situation looked bad. He warned Brazilian clubs, and Flamengo’s own representatives, to be cautious when dealing with such teams.
With no explanation forthcoming, Flamengo will take the matter to court. A similar case involved Matheus Martins of Botafogo, who also pledged to pursue appropriate measures. Boto believes the episode could shape future dealings, but Flamengo’s immediate focus is reintegrating Plata into the first team.
