Flamengo and Palmeiras, leading contenders for the 2026 Libertadores, could be set for another showpiece meeting, with Flamengo director José Boto weighing the prospect and addressing Abel Ferreira.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo beat Independiente del Valle and now face Estudiantes in the semi-finals. Palmeiras eliminated LDU and will meet Fluminense for a place in the final.

The clubs have shared two Libertadores finals. Palmeiras won 2-1 in 2021 after extra time, Deyverson scoring the decisive goal. Flamengo, coached by Filipe Luís, won the 2025 final 1-0 through Danilo.

Boto said a rematch would be special, that he wants it to happen and for the trophy to return to Flamengo and to Leonardo. He added he would like Ferreira to go another year without a title, while noting the coach has already achieved plenty in Brazil. He praised Ferreira’s resilience across six years in the country and said he takes his hat off to him, speaking at the Portugal Football Summit 2026.

The final is scheduled for 28 November in Montevideo. Domestically, they are also contesting the Brasileirão title, Flamengo top on 60 points with Palmeiras second on 57. The sides meet on 22 November at Nubank Parque in a fixture that could shape the championship.
