José Martínez is still in Venezuela two weeks after Corinthians returned to work, and the situation continues to irk the club. He did not answer head coach Dorival Júnior’s most recent message.

According to Globo.com, the midfielder has stayed in contact with executive director Marcelo Paz and market analysis manager Renan Bloise, who is also acting as football manager. He could be fined, a decision only due once he reports back.

Previous late returns in 2025 weigh against him. Corinthians expect him to come back to Brazil in the coming days, with his passport photo taken and the document pending.

He travelled home late last year to work on renewing his Brazilian work visa. With the United States capturing Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, some public services were halted or slowed.

The absence has already ruled him out of Corinthians’ 2026 matches against Ponte Preta, RB Bragantino and São Paulo, and he will also miss Thursday’s derby with Santos. Dorival said Martínez must rebuild confidence within the group to return in his best condition.
