A technicality has kept José Mourinho’s reduced Benfica buyout clause active, with the window now running until the end of this week.
Record writes that the oft-cited 10-day decision period is counted as working days, not calendar days, so the release clause remains set at seven million euros gross, or three million euros net.
The cut-off had widely been understood as 25 May, but the clarification means the lower figure still applies for now.
Since the 16 May match against Estoril, Mourinho has not communicated his decision to president Rui Costa or the wider hierarchy.
Benfica’s hierarchy view the situation as delaying planning for 2026/27, limiting scope to move for Marco Silva, who is out of contract at Fulham and of interest to Milan.
