José Mourinho confirmed at a Thursday press conference that Real Madrid have launched disciplinary proceedings against Raul Asencio, according to L'Équipe.

The 23-year-old defender is involved in several legal and off-field matters. On Wednesday he was fined €14,400 and given an eight-month driving ban for drink-driving.

A separate case was due to open on Thursday on Gran Canaria, also involving three former Real Madrid academy team-mates. Asencio is being prosecuted for sharing a sexual video featuring two young women, aged 16 and 18, in 2023.

Mourinho nonetheless praised the player, describing him as an exemplary professional who, when fit, trained as hard as anyone. He added that while injured in recent weeks, Asencio has been first to arrive and last to leave.

The head coach said a Real Madrid player represents the club around the clock and that behaviour off the pitch can harm its prestige. He was not happy with the situation, noting that everyone makes mistakes but repeated ones are another matter.

Real Madrid visit Betis Seville on Friday at 21:00 in La Liga on matchday four.
