José Mourinho responds to claims of Kylian Mbappé being a ‘problem’ for Real Madrid | OneFootball

Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has on Friday thrown his full backing behind star attacker Kylian Mbappé. This comes amid the assurance that the Frenchman should never be considered a ‘problem’ for his team.

The subject of Mbappé’s fit in Spain’s capital has of course already reemerged as a major talking point over the early weeks of the new season.

Despite five goals in five appearances, the Frenchman has been criticised for concerning wastefulness in the final third, including a crucial missed spot-kick in a defeat at the hands of Real Betis last weekend.

On top of this, Mbappé has frequently continued to fill the same spaces as the likes of Vinícius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, owing to his eagerness to drop deep and involve himself in all phases of attack.

Though not necessarily a direct fault of the 27-year-old, his ‘fit’, so far as not being a more classic no.9 in the ilk of Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski, has therefore been called into question yet again.

After the same issue dominated the headlines throughout Mbappé’s first two years at the Bernabéu, the subject was in turn put to his manager late this week.

Speaking during his pre-Rayo Vallecano press conference on Friday, though, José Mourinho was keen to assure:

“For me, a player who scores 40 goals is never a problem for the team.”
