Real Madrid's new head coach José Mourinho criticised Bernardo Silva's fitness after the Portuguese made his debut in a 2-1 win over Ferencvaros.

This was Madrid's third pre-season game. According to L'Équipe, the 63-year-old said Silva had done nothing during his holidays and arrived in very poor physical condition, though he believes the player has the mindset to succeed.

Silva, who featured at the 2026 World Cup with his national team, came on in the 46th minute, replacing Brahim Diaz, for his first appearance in white.

Mourinho added that during the match he felt Silva lacked some strength, so he moved him into the number 10 role, a position where he also performs very well.

The result marked Madrid's second win of pre-season. They next face Deportivo La Corogne, the new club of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, on Wednesday 12 August.
