Incoming Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has set his sights on the signature of a star member of the midfield ranks at Sporting CP.

This comes amid the understanding that the Portuguese has identified Morten Hjlumand as the ideal addition to Los Blancos’ engine room setup.

Real Madrid are of course widely expected to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park with a view to next season.

Amid the ongoing struggles of Eduardo Camavinga, and with the futures of Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni having been thrown up in the air over recent weeks, securing a new midfield presence has been earmarked as something of a necessity at the Bernabéu.

And if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then José Mourinho appears to have a profile of player very much in mind…

As per a report from COPE:

‘Mourinho has asked Real Madrid to sign Morten Hjulmand, Danish midfielder from Sporting de Portugal.’

Hjulmand, who generally operates in a deep-lying role, is in the midst of a stellar individual campaign to date in Lisbon.

Across all competitions, the 26-year-old has racked up 44 appearances, chipping in with three goals and six assists along the way.
