The former Burnley midfielder has reacted to Zian Flemming’s exit message on social media.

To match a poor start to the season on their Championship return, Burnley will be devastated to have lost star striker Zian Flemming on deadline day.

The Dutchman completed a move to Premier League outfit Ipswich Town in the final hours of the summer transfer window after making it clear he wanted to leave the club in order to pursue top-flight football.

It has been reported by the BBC that Burnley pocketed £20m from the sale of Flemming, but the Clarets will undoubtedly miss his regular goalscoring presence at Championship level over the coming weeks and months.

It’s a big challenge for boss Nicky Hayen to navigate as to how Burnley have enough ammunition at the top end of the pitch, with the Lancashire outfit losing such an important player who could have made all the difference in them getting towards the top end of the table.

Since his move to Portman Road was confirmed, Flemming has taken to social media to post an exit message to the Burnley faithful, with former Clarets man Josh Brownhill reacting to it.

Making the move from Millwall to Turf Moor in the summer of 2024, Zian Flemming came off the back of netting 22 goals over two campaigns at The Den and hit the ground running for the Clarets.

In the second tier, Flemming netted 12 times as Burnley went on their way to secure automatic promotion back to the big time, while the most impressive thing about his short stay was his ability to rise up to the challenge of the Premier League.

Despite being in a relatively poor side at that level, Flemming went on to notch 11 goals from 29 top-flight appearances – an incredible feat that left him a sought-after forward throughout the summer transfer window just gone.

Flemming would also go on to leave his mark back in the Championship, with his final couple of goals for the club coming against West Ham on the opening day of the season, as Burnley battled from two goals down to secure a well-earned 2-2 draw.

Since his departure to Ipswich Town was confirmed, Zian Flemming has taken to Instagram to pen an exit message to Burnley supporters, detailing that he wasn’t overly pleased about the timing of his departure, but that he could look back on his time at Turf Moor with ‘pride’.

Flemming post read: “And just like that, life as a Claret is over. Arrived on deadline day, left on deadline day… and believe me, in both instances I wish that would have been different. But especially in transfer windows, unfortunately most things are beyond your own control.

“To all the fans, I can’t thank you enough for making me feel so appreciated. I could feel that our connection grew stronger and was still growing each game I represented your club. I’m happy that I can leave through the front door, able to look back at my time here with pride.

“I’ll cherish the memories forever, hope you will do so too. UTC.”

Meanwhile, former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, who now represents Saudi outfit Al-Shabab, took to the comments under Flemming’s post, posting two purple heart emojis, which would appear to see him thanking the forward for his time and efforts at Turf Moor.

You can understand why there is so much outrage from Burnley fans about the late departure of Zian Flemming, with their promotion hopes taking a massive tumble now they haven’t been able to hold onto him.

Flemming showcased against West Ham exactly why he was so important to this Burnley side, and you feel now with such a lack of goals that the Clarets are going to find it tough to string consistent results together over the long-term.

This decision could prove to be so damaging given they haven’t had the time to bring in an ample replacement, with the timing of the sale as disastrous as it gets.

Serious questions need to be asked of the board, who knew Flemming wanted to leave months ago.
