Leicester City completed the signing of Harry Souttar from Stoke City on a five-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee late on transfer deadline day.

The centre back had been a bright spark at the bet365 Stadium in a difficult couple of seasons for the club, and has earned his opportunity to step up to the top-flight.

The Potters now have seven players in their current squad on loan deals, when you can only name five domestic ones in a matchday squad, with Axel Tuanzebe, Ben Pearson, Ki-Jana Hoever and Bersant Celina all arriving this month.

Souttar appeared to strengthen Stoke not only in his performances on the pitch, but in the leadership he offered at a young age and the relationships that he built in his time at the club.

Josh Tymon took to Twitter to wish the Australian well in his move to the Foxes.

He wrote: “One of the top top guys, you deserve it all brother.

“Go smash it!”

Potters supporters do not seem to be in the most exciting position ahead of the remainder of the season, with the main aim set to be comfortably consolidating their place in the division, ahead of a crucial first pre-season period under Alex Neil.

What year were Stoke founded?

1853 1863 1873 1883

Stoke are seven points above the bottom three and ten points off the play-offs with 18 league matches to play.

Stranger things have happened and a quick rise in the top half could have supporters dreaming, but having won just one of their last four in the second tier, it is difficult to see a significant upturn.

Supporters may still have high hopes for D’Margio Wright-Phillips, who joined Northampton Town on loan on deadline day, and it will be interesting to monitor his progress in the League Two promotion race in the coming months.
