Joshua Zirkzee underwhelmed in his first start for Manchester United this season.

With Benjamin Sesko sidelined, Ruben Amorim finally gave Zirkzee an opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the United team.

Against 10-man Everton, United launched a total of 38 crosses, but the 6ft 4in striker looked powerless in front of the Toffees’ central defenders, managing to properly test Jordan Pickford just once. His link-up play was also non-existent.

Zirkzee has fallen down the pecking order at Man United

Once Sesko is fully fit, Zirkzee is likely to return to his usual bench role, having struggled to make a difference in the final third since moving to Manchester from Bologna in a deal worth £36.5m. He has seven goals to his name in 55 appearances across all competitions.

Even the return of Matheus Cunha could hamper his gametime, as the Brazilian has featured centrally under Amorim.

A number of Serie A clubs are monitoring Zirkzee’s situation, as the Dutchman is thought to be “deeply frustrated” at United.

It seems AS Roma are pushing the hardest for his signature.

Roma keen to sign Zirkzee

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Roma’s offer for Joshua Zirkzee is now on United’s table.

The Giallorossi have proposed an initial loan with an option to buy. It is understood the said option would become an obligation if Roma secure Champions League football for next term.

Every Dutch player to play for United

The Italian publication add that the Netherlands international is “now closer” to joining Roma and has “said yes” to the move.

Roma are also monitoring Midtjylland striker Franculino Dju, who has also caught the attention of the Premier League giants.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United could sign the 21-year-old Midtjylland star to possibly replace Zirkzee.
