Josip Sutalo ‘to join’ Lazio as Ajax talks progress | OneFootball

Lazio are closing on a deal for Ajax centre-back Josip Sutalo, with negotiations described as advanced, Sky Sport Italia reports.

The club accelerated their search after Oliver Provstgaard and Danilho Doekhi struggled in the Coppa Italia loss to Mantova, and with Alessio Romagnoli’s future still unclear.

On Wednesday morning, Il Messaggero named Sutalo as the prime target ahead of Standard Liege’s Ibe Hautekiet and Slavia Prague’s Stepan Chaloupek, while ruling out Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

Sky Sport Italia indicates the expected formula is a loan for around €3 million with an obligation to buy tied to sporting objectives.

A Dinamo Zagreb academy product, Sutalo joined Ajax in summer 2023 for €20 million and has made 108 appearances across all competitions over the last three seasons.

He is under contract until June 2028 and has 37 Croatia caps, starting all four games at the World Cup.
