Josmar steps up for Pedro as Flamengo hand fresh first-team chance | OneFootball

Josmar has joined Flamengo's senior sessions during the FIFA break, stepping in for Pedro while the striker is with Brazil.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the 18-year-old is on an exchange pathway, remaining with the under-20s while also working with Leonardo Jardim's squad as he looks to impress.

He has taken a full part in recent first-team training. Even so, the expectation is that he and other under-20 eligible players will feature in the under-20 Carioca clássico against Fluminense on Saturday 26.

The club's initial schedule gives the senior group time off on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27, so any under-20 involvement would not clash with Jardim's sessions.

Flamengo view Josmar as a promising academy talent, but have taken a cautious approach to fixing him in the senior set-up. His first inclusion in a matchday squad came for the Brasileirão clássico with Botafogo.

Previously at Avaí, he broke through in Série B, scoring at 17 and becoming the youngest scorer in the competition's points-based era. Flamengo paid R$ 3.5 million to sign him.

During the window, Jardim has used the downtime to rest players and sharpen his methods. Flamengo's next match is on eight October at Santos in the Brasileirão, kicking off at 19:30 Brasília time at Vila Belmiro.
