Journalist says Juventus made a mistake releasing Vlahovic | OneFootball

Juventus allowed Dusan Vlahovic to leave the club as a free agent at the end of June, and they may now regret that decision, with Randal Kolo Muani struggling to rediscover his goalscoring form.

The Bianconeri were confident that the Frenchman would replicate the form he showed during his first spell at the club. He can still turn things around, but time is running out for him to demonstrate his best form in the team.

The Old Lady will continue to start Kolo Muani in matches, but it is clear that the striker is struggling, and Juve may now be wishing they had kept Vlahovic. He was expensive, but he knew how to score goals and had proved himself capable of fitting into Luciano Spalletti’s system.

Juventus could regret Vlahovic exit

Juve instead decided against breaking their wage structure again, and the decision has now come under scrutiny. Fabio Ravezzani believes allowing the Serbian striker to leave during the last window was a mistake.

He said via Tuttojuve:

“Juventus made a very clear choice on Vlahovic, in some ways even understandable, but it is proving to be a mistake. Juventus knew that by not renewing Vlahovic they would have had much more freedom to make transfer operations because Vlahovic cost a whopping €22 million in gross salary alone, and between one thing and another, Vlahovic cost almost €50 million a year. For Juventus, this is madness. In reality, he is an excellent striker, he is not a champion.”

Ravezzani’s comments highlight the financial reasoning behind Juventus’ decision, with Vlahovic’s wages representing a high cost for the club. The Bianconeri clearly believed that moving away from such a salary would give them greater flexibility in the transfer market.

Kolo Muani under pressure

However, the decision looks less convincing while Kolo Muani continues to struggle in front of goal. Juventus had hoped he could reproduce the performances that made him so effective during his first spell with the club, but that form has not returned consistently.

With the season continuing, Juventus will hope their current striker can rediscover his confidence and begin scoring regularly again. If that does not happen, the club could increasingly be left to wonder whether keeping Vlahovic would have been the better choice, despite the financial burden attached to the Serbian forward.
