Journalist says Juventus will be a better team with Icardi in attack | OneFootball

Juventus have been told they could solve their attacking problems by adding Mauro Icardi to their squad as a free agent.

The Argentinian left Galatasaray when his contract expired at the end of last season, having lost his relevance at the club following the arrival of Victor Osimhen. However, Icardi remains a recognised striker and has been linked with a return to Serie A, with several clubs reportedly interested in signing him, including high flying Lazio.

Icardi knows Italian football very well after enjoying a superb spell at Inter Milan, and his experience could allow him to make an impact in Serie A if a club manages to convince him to return.

Juventus have attacking concerns

Juventus knew Icardi was available, but they focused on signing Randal Kolo Muani and also added Nick Woltemade to their squad during the last transfer window. Their decision to pursue other options suggests that the Bianconeri were not convinced that Icardi was the solution to their attacking needs.

However, journalist Riccardo Trevisani believes Icardi could be the player capable of addressing their current problems. Kolo Muani has struggled to find the back of the net, while there are still questions over how Woltemade will perform in the long term.

Trevisani’s comments come as Juventus continue to search for greater consistency in attack, with their options yet to provide the level of output expected from the team.

Trevisani suggests Icardi solution

Trevisani also discussed Juventus’ overall performance and argued that the team’s defensive display was better than the atmosphere around the club might suggest. He said via Calciomercato:

“Now there’s a terrible atmosphere as if this team makes you laugh defensively and makes you laugh offensively. The truth is, it makes the offensive laugh but not the defensive. Until the final minutes, the Bianconeri had played a serious match in defense, they had worked well.”

He added:

“It’s clear that there’s a problem in attack that for me the solution would be to go and get the free agent Icardi.”

The comments underline the concerns surrounding Juventus’ attacking options, while Icardi’s availability as a free agent gives clubs an opportunity to sign an experienced striker without a transfer fee. Whether Juventus revisit their interest remains to be seen.
