Journalist suggests ‘goal machine’ transfer that would save Man United ‘considerable pain’ | OneFootball

Journalist Henry Winter has quipped that Manchester United should just sign ‘goal machine’ Pascal Gross in order to put an end to his unrelenting record against them.

Last night, the German added to his tally of eight goals in the 18 matches he’s played against United.

“It would save Manchester United considerable pain if they just signed Pascal Gross,” said Winter on Twitter/X.

Gross’ contribution levelled the Carabao Cup tie between the Red Devils and Brighton and Hove Albion in the 65th minute, before the latter were able to take the lead for the first time just five minutes later.

Remarkably, it came after United had established a two-goal lead inside 10 minutes of the clash, which they went on to squander with the dismal performance that followed.

Of course, signing 35-year-old Gross isn’t the answer to United’s problems, but last night’s affairs will undoubtedly have left INEOS scratching their heads over what they keep getting so wrong.

£148 million was shelled out to rebuild the midfield this summer, as well as £194.8m (upfront) to bolster the frontline last year via the additions of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

None of the players were able to get on the scoresheet last night, with United’s two goals coming courtesy of 19-year-old Shea Lacey, who was making his full debut, and Mason Mount.

After the two quickfire strikes, United offered little to no attacking threat for the majority of the clash.

The same can also be said for last weekend’s Manchester derby loss, where Michael Carrick’s side failed to even find the back of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s net despite being up against 10 men since the 23rd minute when Phil Foden was sent off.
