Liverpool tracking Yan Diomande and Yankubah Minteh for wide reinforcements

As Liverpool continue shaping their summer recruitment strategy, wide attacking options remain a clear priority. Two names discussed in detail on the Anfield Index Media Matters podcast, featuring Dave Davis and David Lynch, were Yan Diomande and Yankubah Minteh.

Both players fit a profile Liverpool appear keen to target, pace, directness, and the ability to operate in wide areas.

Liverpool search for pace and directness

Lynch made the club’s thinking explicit when discussing attacking needs. “It has to be doesn’t it, I think that’s something this team has lacked,” he said, referring to pace in forward areas.

He pointed to current limitations, explaining that while existing options are effective in moments, “they’re not really dangerously pacey”. This lack of explosive speed has made it easier for opponents to defend against Liverpool’s attack.

As a result, the recruitment focus is clear. Lynch stated that Liverpool “need facilitators out wide who can chip in with goals as well”, highlighting the dual requirement of creativity and end product.

Yankubah Minteh emerges as strong option

Among the names discussed, Minteh appears to have a longer standing connection with Liverpool’s recruitment team. Lynch revealed, “Minteh is definitely someone they’ve been keeping an eye on for a long time, even before he came to the Premier League”.

That familiarity could prove significant. Adapting to the league is often a key hurdle, but Minteh’s experience in England strengthens his case. Lynch added, “they’ll like that he’s adapted to the Premier League and they’ll like what they’ve seen from him”.

Importantly, he also offered a personal endorsement, “I like him a lot as a player”, reinforcing the sense that Minteh aligns well with Liverpool’s needs.

Yan Diomande also under consideration

Alongside Minteh, Diomande was mentioned as part of Liverpool’s shortlist. While details around his situation remain less clear, he is firmly in the mix as the club evaluates options.

Lynch noted that “definitely on the list with Diomande”, confirming that Liverpool are actively considering multiple profiles rather than focusing on a single target.

However, uncertainty remains around key factors such as valuation and timing. “Not entirely clear at the moment who’s kind of the front runner there,” Lynch admitted, suggesting that the decision making process is still ongoing.

He also hinted at potential complications, including contract situations and player preference, which could influence how quickly any move develops.

Liverpool transfer shortlist taking shape

What emerges from the Anfield Index discussion is a clearer picture of Liverpool’s approach. Rather than pursuing marquee names without a defined role, the club appear focused on specific attributes that address current weaknesses.

Both Diomande and Minteh represent that shift. They are not simply creative players, but wide attackers capable of stretching defences and contributing in decisive moments.

Lynch summed up the situation succinctly, explaining that “Liverpool will have drawn up the shortlist at this point and it’s just a case of who they whittle that down to”.
