Several leading members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week moved to reiterate their appreciation for former teammate Luka Modrić.

This comes after the Croatian this week celebrated a milestone birthday.

Midfielder Modrić of course brought a close to his legendary Real Madrid stint earlier this summer.

After those in a position of power in Spain’s capital made the call not to offer the veteran an extension to his expiring contract terms, Modrić went on to link up with Italian heavyweights AC Milan.

As alluded to above, though, the former Ballon d’Or winner’s icon status in the Santiago Bernabéu evidently remains intact.

Modrić for his part celebrated his 40th birthday on Tuesday.
