Judge suspends BRB payments to Flamengo over disputed deal | OneFootball

A Distrito Federal judge has ordered the provisional suspension of Banco de Brasília’s sponsorship payments to Flamengo, amid a legal challenge over an agreement worth a further R$ 42 million.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the ruling was issued on Friday 22 by judge Sandra Cristina Candeira de Lira of the sixth Public Treasury Court of the Distrito Federal.

The judge also noted that BRB is facing a serious financial crisis and that continuing the outlay could harm public assets. The case alleges breaches of public administration principles, including morality, impersonality and cost-effectiveness.

BRB has sponsored Flamengo since 2020 and the partnership was recently extended. The bank previously held the main shirt position, but once Betano became the main shirt sponsor its branding moved to the shoulder area.

While the sponsor deals with internal matters, Flamengo turn to the pitch. On Saturday 23, they face Palmeiras in the 17th round of the Brasileirão at the Maracanã, kick-off 21:00 Brasília time. The match will be shown on Premiere pay-per-view and SporTV.
