Jürgen Klopp targets Germany reset, calls national job the pinnacle of his career | OneFootball

Jürgen Klopp has been named Germany head coach on a four-year contract and was presented on Friday. L'Équipe reports that the 59-year-old called the role ideally the pinnacle of his professional life and said he would give it everything.

Germany, world champions in 2014, exited the 2026 World Cup in the last 32 to Paraguay after a 1-1 draw and a 3-4 defeat on penalties.

Klopp’s brief is to take the team to the 2030 World Cup, to be staged in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with three matches in Montevideo, Buenos Aires and Asuncion.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager has served since January 2025 as Red Bull’s global director of football under a deal to 2029. He will end that contract completely to focus on work within the German federation.

He leaves without a transfer fee, with one million euros instead going to Red Bull’s Wings for Life foundation, which funds research into spinal cord injuries. Klopp told reporters, half joking, that if they call him rubbish tomorrow he would walk away without compensation. He added that he was not taking the job for himself, and referenced how Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel had been treated.
