Julen Agirrezabala has suffered a meniscus injury to his left knee, a setback that all but ends his season. The estimated recovery time is about two and a half months, pending final examination.
Valencia said in a statement that the problem arose in a training incident on Friday and that the goalkeeper would travel to Vitoria this afternoon for assessment by Athletic’s medical staff and to determine a likely operation.
Athletic posted a message of support on social media, calling it a real shame and urging him to stay strong. The player, owned by the Basque club and on loan at Valencia, will now be in their hands.
The blow comes just as he was close to returning, which could have reopened the goalkeeping debate. The new issue is in the same left knee where he sustained a hamstring tear during the first match of 2026 against Celta in Balaídos on 3 January.
Agirrezabala had been an undisputed starter for Corberán in the first 18 LaLiga games, proving one of the most effective summer signings.
