Julian Alvarez returned to Atlético de Madrid’s group training on Sunday after several days’ absence, and he still wants to join FC Barcelona before the deadline, according to L'Équipe.

The 26-year-old missed Wednesday and Thursday, then worked alone on Friday afternoon at Majadahonda, the club’s training base, before rejoining the squad.

Sporting director Mateu Alemany said the plan was clear, noting Alvarez had felt unwell for a few days, trained on Friday, and that they hope he will be back quickly and available for the next La Liga match. He spoke before their 3-1 win at Sevilla on Saturday.

Alvarez was not in the travelling squad for the trip to Sevilla. He has played only 24 minutes this season and was loudly jeered during his sole outing.

The Spanish transfer window closes on Tuesday. Atlético de Madrid still do not wish to sell the forward to Barcelona.
