Joan Laporta confirms Barcelona-Atletico Madrid relations repaired following Julian Alvarez transfer saga | OneFootball

Throughout the summer, Barcelona tried to sign Julian Alvarez on several occasions. However, Atletico Madrid turned down every approach, and the back-and-forth between the clubs eventually became public, rather than remaining behind closed doors.

When Alvarez stated in an interview that he wanted to leave, Atleti accused Barcelona of pushing the Argentine striker to that point. The back-and-forth continued for much of the summer, although things have now settled down – and this has presented an opportunity for institutional relations to be repaired between two of La Liga’s big three.

On Tuesday, Joan Laporta was at the assembly of the European Football Clubs (EFC), where he coincided with Atleti CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin. Speaking to MD, the Barcelona president confirmed that he took the opportunity to repair relations, confirming that their prior relationship “has been resumed”.

“Affectionate, excellent. We thought, when we met, that we had to continue the good relationship between the two clubs and the personal one we have. I appreciate him a lot, he knows it. I also notice his affection and we saw each other and we immediately gave each other a hug and I think we have smoothed out rough edges and that we have resumed the relationship as it should be. And I am very satisfied because he is also a person that I appreciate very much.”

Will Barcelona-Atleti tensions resurface in 2027?

Laporta may have taken the opportunity to work things out with Gil Marin, but there is every chance that Barcelona and Atleti go to war again in 2027. The Catalans are still interested in signing Alvarez, while Los Colchoneros are still clear that they will not sell their prized player to a direct rival.

It will be interesting to see whether Barcelona try to sign Alvarez again, but going by , they will surely do so.
