This week, Julian Alvarez has returned to Atletico Madrid with the intention of telling the club that he wants to join Barcelona. The Argentine striker has no intention of staying at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano beyond the end of the summer transfer window, although his plans have been affected in the last 24 hours.

Alvarez was due back at Atleti on Monday to undergo medical tests, and the idea was that he would be welcomed back by Diego Simeone. At this point, he intended to tell him that he wanted to leave, but as per MD, those plans were thwarted after the Los Colchoneros head coach decided to take an impromptu break alongside his players.

This snub has greatly angered Alvarez, who believe Simeone showed a lack of courage in not meeting him, knowing that they would speak about his desired exit. Thus, he reportedly those that were in attendance on Monday not to “count on him” going forward, thus indicating that he has no intention of training or playing for the club ever again.

Alvarez considers Atleti relations “burned”

This incident with Simeone has completely burned Alvarez’s relations with Atleti, and thus, it’s now expected that he will push very hard to leave. The pair will definitely meet on Wednesday as that is when the former returns from his break to lead training again, but right now, it would be a surprise if Alvarez was involved in any of the sessions going forward.

Barcelona will be very pleased if Alvarez decides to boycott Atleti training, as it would give more chances for them to sign him this summer. It’s clear that strong pressure needs to be applied to ensure that there is movement, and because the Catalans’ efforts have been thwarted up until now, the player himself is the one that needs to lead the charge – which he is ready to do now.
